Rt Hon Anna Soubry visits BEL Engineering’s subcontract machining facility
Showcasing support for British manufacturing, Business Minister Anna Soubry MP visited two of British Engines’ businesses, BEL Valves and BEL Engineering at their St Peters site last Thursday. The Business Minister toured the newly refurbished BEL Engineering facility in Newcastle with British Engines’ Chairman Alex Lamb.
Impressed by the investment and infrastructure at the St Peters site, Ms. Soubry praised British Engines for their continuous drive to expand their businesses into global markets. Accompanied by Terry Scuoler from the manufacturing group Engineering Employers’ Federation (EEF), both visitors were keen to support growth in the manufacturing sector and reiterated the need to provide stability and support for UK businesses.
Government support
Highlighting the importance of major infrastructure projects such as Swansea Bay, High Speed 2 (HS2) and Hinckley Point, the group were discussing how the advancement of these projects is significant for UK industry, with business keen to see the government supporting these projects in order to boost industry and secure skilled jobs in the UK.
The importance of industry and manufacturing is evident across the North East of England with the sector supporting thousands of jobs across a wide range of disciplines. BEL Engineering provides subcontract machining services for small individual piece components to large envelope work pieces to a range of industries including energy, construction, defence, transport, marine, oil and gas markets. With experience across these markets evident in other British Engines group companies, the group sets the scene for what is a crucial and historical part of industry both in the North East and England and the UK as a whole.
