BEL Engineering, Newcastle based subcontract machining provider, has been selected as the machining provider of choice to support Subsea Innovation with their multi-million-pound order from Subsea 7 i-tech services.
Subsea Innovation received the sizable order from Subsea7 i-tech services to provide five Structural Pipeline Repair Clamps which will form part of an Emergency Pipeline Repair System (EPRS) supporting pipelines off the North and Northwest coasts of Australia. The five systems cover pipeline diameters of 20” to 44”, making BEL Engineering one of only a handful of companies that can handle both the weights and dimensions of these clamp bodies.
Project Managed Service
Delivering an end to end service, BEL Engineering has utilised their established supply chain to source F22 heat treated forgings with complete documentation requirements on behalf of Subsea Innovation. Providing their experienced project managed service, BEL Engineering will complete material sourcing, documentation, machining, painting and delivery requirements for Subsea Innovation.
Subsea Innovation Managing Director Dave Thompson said “We are delighted to be collaborating with another North East based company on this milestone project for our company that demonstrates not only our capability but that of the North East as a whole. Working closely with BEL Engineering through the bidding process enabled us to give the best price to the client which was a key element to winning the work”
With first materials deliveries arriving now, BEL Engineering is expected to complete the final deliveries in January 2017 which includes 47 tonne fully assembled clamps. Now designed to support projects from 3mm diameter up to large 50-tonne components, BEL Engineering is one of the few dedicated heavy machining facilities capable of handling the requirements of the Subsea Innovation project. Operating at the same site in St Peters, Newcastle where the British Engines group began in the 1920s, the group has continued to make investment in the latest machining and facilities to provide extensive services to feed a variety of market sectors.
Despite the downturn in the oil and gas market, both businesses are seeing a steady stream of orders from the sector, buoyed by the recent project award for Australia. With vast experience across a range of market sectors, the two North East businesses are able to collaborate to utilise their experience, knowledge, and technology to support a variety of projects worldwide.
